News from the Guidance Department:.

 

  • Guidance is letting us know about an ACT tutoring opportunity hosted by La Tech University Saturday, March 30th from 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM at the Louisiana Tech Integrated Engineering and Science Building (IESB) See Guidance for more information

  • The George Welch Scholarship applications are due today.  You can stop by Guidance or Mrs. Averitt's room to pick up an application.

  • We also have a new scholarship opportunity, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Scholarship. Applicants that are eligible for this scholarship are black female seniors at WMHS, who have a 3.0 Cumulative GPA and an ACT Score of 20/SAT 980. The deadline to apply is April 2, 2024. For more details and additional scholarship requirements, please grab a copy of this scholarship application at the Guidance office or online at gorebs.org.

  • If anyone is interested in taking Drivers Ed come see Coach Osborne in the gym 1-3 periods for information.

  • Dual Enrollment applications are now available for anyone interested in taking a dual enrollment class NEXT year. Any student planning on taking a DE course next year MUST complete this packet. Simply signing up on your course request form will not place you in a DE class. This application is for new students to dual enrollment and students currently enrolled. You may pick up a packet from any of the following teachers: Aswell, Ashley Walker, Gulde, Rawls, Garvin, Eason, Etzel, Harris, Reynolds, and Knox. As a reminder, Ouachita Parish School Board plans on paying for 2 courses per semester for seniors and one per semester for juniors. All additional 3 hr courses are $300 for the 2024-2025 school year. The application deadline is no later than Wednesday, April 3. This includes the ULM online application. Any student who is only taking a course through LA TECH will complete the paper portion only and will complete the online portion in the fall. All of this information can be found in the current dual enrollment packet.

Sports News: 

 

Baseball won last night against Byrd 9-1, They were led offensively by Hayden Federico going 3 for 3 with a walk and John Person adding a homer and two rbis. Drew ferguson picked up the win yesterday and collected 8 strikeouts in five innings.They will be at home vs West Ouachita Today. They’ll also play AT West Ouachita on Saturday

  • Softball fell yesterday to Pineville. They will be in the Quitman Tournament this weekend. On Friday they will take on Claiborne Christian at 4. On Saturday they will play Sulphur at 11 am and Quitman at 3 PM 

  • Golf they’ll cap off the regular season with a tournament at Black Bear next Wednesday during Spring Break.

  • This weekend, our Rebels and Lady Rebels powerlifting compete for the State Championship in Lafayette! Tomorrow, the girls compete, and lifting starts at 10. Saturday, the boys will also start at 10.

  • Track and Field will be at the Hoss Garrett Relays in Ruston today.

  • The Tennis match against Alexandria today has been cancelled due to weather. 

  • Tennis took on West Ouachita yesterday. Girls won 7 out of 7 matches. Boys won 3 out of 3 matches. They’ll play at Alexandria tomorrow .

Club and Organization News:

 

  • Board Game Club will have a meeting today after school in the library.

  • Tryout days for Raiders are today and tomorrow at 2:30- 1st floor of Edgewood. Tryout days for Rebeline are April 3rd and 4th at 3:30- 1st floor of Edgewood .Candidates for Raiders should return packets including all documents on the first day of tryouts, which is today. Candidates for Rebeline should return packets including all documents on the first day of tryouts, April 3rd in Edgewood at 3:30. The tryout fee must be paid by tomorrow. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Shepard in room 4206 for Raider questions, or Miss Tubbs in room 4109 for Rebeline questions during 3rd lunch shift or during 6th period only.

  • Powder Puff Football is BACK!! It will be on Tuesday, April 9th @ 6pm @ Rebel Stadium. Buy your tickets now to either participate or to cheer on your friends! Tickets are sold via GoFans. Participant tickets will only be sold through March 20th. Spectator tickets will be sold from now until the night of the game.  Flyers for Powder Puff are posted around campus with the QR code linked to our GoFans page. Find a Student Council member, Cheerleader, or Raider to get the access code to purchase your ticket!

  • Juniors & Seniors are you ready for an Evening of Enchantment? Prom will be Saturday, April 6th. This year we are bringing back the game room with great prizes such as flat screen tv's, speakers, dorm fridges, & more! This is the last week to purchase tickets via GoFans. The last day is tomorrow.   Tickets will not be sold after Spring Break. Flyers are posted around campus with the QR code linked to our GoFans page.See Mrs. Jones in room 4208 or Mrs. Nix in room 3105 for  paperwork & access codes for non-WMHS student tickets.

  • Our window for purchasing a yearbook is about to close. Be sure to go to Balfour.com, choose West Monroe High School and order your yearbook today. If you are an Eagle Scout, please send a picture of yourself in uniform (preferably from your pinning ceremony) to karen.wise@opsb.net. This year we are including a special page in the yearbook to honor those who have reached the rank of Eagle Scout. The yearbook staff is seeking some additional pictures to complete the yearbook.  Specifically, we are looking for more pictures from Volleyball, the homecoming dance, the Valentine's dance, Powerlifting, Interact, and Golf. If you have some pictures from any of these events that you would like to share, please send them to karen.wise@opsb.net or send them to the yearbook Instagram page. (wmhsrebelyearbook)

  • Over this past weekend, the Robotics team participated in the Magnolia Regional in Laurel, Mississippi. They took 5th place out of the 37 teams competing. Their next competition will be the Bayou regional in Kenner, April 3-6.
